At Big Shanty, we start playing the recorder in 3rd grade. The order form went home in the Thursday folder, but here is a copy if you need it.
Every year at Big Shanty we like to honor our Big Shanty Family Veterans by putting pictures in a slideshow. Please send in pictures of your family so we can say thank you. Home room teachers are sending information home about our program on November 6. Please make sure that students wear pants with back pockets during the performance. Check this out, it has all of the words to all of our songs.
Our 3rd Grade program will be here before you know it! Here are the practice tracks if you would like to sing along at home.
In class we are still learning about Patriotic music.
The Star Spangled Banner turns 200 this month! Please review our SSB etiquette- 1. Stand. Remove your hat if you are wearing one. 2. Face the Flag. If there is not on in sight, just stand tall and proud. 3. Place your hand over your heart, or keep your hands at your sides, or folded in back or front. 4. Sing loud and clear. If you are uncomfortable singing loud and clear, enjoy the singing around you. 5. Keep poised, reverent and respectful throughout the song. If you want to head to the treasure box, bring the definition to the word auld to music next time. We found this word in the song, You're a Grand Old Flag. During the First 9 Weeks of school (until the beginning of Oct.) we will be learning about all aspects of Music, but students will be assessed on the following standards- A. Skills and Techniques/Performance M3GM.1 – Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music a. Sing melodies in the range of an octave using appropriate head voice accompanied and unaccompanied. C. Critical Analysis/Investigate M3GM.6 – Listening to, analyzing, and describing music b. Describe music using appropriate vocabulary (allegro, adagio, forte, piano, upward, downward), appropriate mood, and timbre adjectives. Under Skills a Techniques, I am specifically assessing the student's ability to accurately sing melodies in the range of an octave (do, re mi- all the way to do) using head voice (singing voice that resonates in your head and sinus cavities instead of your chest. In addition to these assessed standards, we will start preparing our music for the 3rd grade Veteran's Day program. I hope that each child participates in the evening program. It is a very special experience for all involved. This year it will be on Thursday, November 9th. |
