Check out this free app created by a music teacher. It is time to order recorders and book again. In 4th grade we use a different book than we do in 3rd grade, but the good news is we use the same book in 4th and 5th. If you need an order form, click below.
Every year at Big Shanty we like to honor our Big Shanty Family Veterans by putting pictures in a slideshow. Please send in pictures of your family so we can say thank you. This rotation, 4th grade students are taking a formative assessment on Musical Form. We have been playing interactive games practicing form and creating our own.
Next rotation we start a unit on Opera and Instrumental Music We are still working on our dotted half notes and our patriotic music.
The Star Spangled Banner turns 200 this month! Please review our SSB etiquette- 1. Stand. Remove your hat if you are wearing one. 2. Face the Flag. If there is not on in sight, just stand tall and proud. 3. Place your hand over your heart, or keep your hands at your sides, or folded in back or front. 4. Sing loud and clear. If you are uncomfortable singing loud and clear, enjoy the singing around you.5. Keep poised, reverent and respectful throughout the song. Right now 4th graders are learning about dotted half notes (they get three beats). We have learned the rule of the dot- The almighty DOT adds Half of the Value To learn more about our dot, we used the song America the Beautiful. We learned about Katherine Lee Bates and we responded to the literature we explored. The students were asked the following 3 questions- 1. What is beauty? 2. What is beautiful about America? 3. How does the poem and music of, America the Beautiful portray beauty to the listener? This is what Allison in Mrs. Gordon's class said- Big changes in 4th grade this year and I am excited. I will finally be able to reward your students with the grade they have earned! For the first 9 weeks, I will be teaching from all of the standards, but I will be focusing and assessing the following- Applies knowledge of music concepts through singing and playing instruments M4GM.1a,c,d M4GM.2a,c,d; Sings in head voice OR plays with appropriate tone using dynamics and phrasing with and without accompaniment in songs of various cultures Reads and notates music M4GM.3a,b; Reads AND notates half, quarter, eighth, dotted half, whole notes and rests using traditional symbols in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 meter Describes and analyzes music M4GM.6a Accurately distinguishes simple formal structures - AB, ABA, rondo, Introduction, and Coda We will also be doing a patriotic music unit and we will focus on the Star Spangled Banner because it turns 200 this year! |
