The Cobb County School District will implement Student Learning Objective Assessments (SLOs) during the 2016 - 2017 school year. These assessments consist of a pre-test in August and a post-test in May.
SLOs are subject-specific learning objectives that provide growth measures for student learning. Teams of Cobb County teachers throughout the district developed the SLO assessments that we will administer this year. Students will take the SLO assessments for Physical Education, Art, and Music. In addition, if your student receives gifted services in grades 3rd or 4th they will take the SLO Advanced Learning Program assessment. For the 2016 - 2017 school year, the SLO implementation requires teachers to use assessments to determine student growth over the course of the year. The results of these assessments ensure that students, teachers, and schools are moving toward a common vision of exemplary instruction and high levels of student academic growth. The majority of our time will be spent doing this with our recorders. We will begin our Recorder Karate program soon and students can advance at their own pace and only the sky is the limit. As needed, I will post tutorial videos to help students at home. Once we start recorder, students should bring them to music every day. If any student does not have, or forgets a personal recorder, I will have the classroom set available and each child will be responsible for cleaning and using the classroom recorder. The classroom books and recorders are for classroom use only and cannot be take home.
If your child does not have a recorder and forgot to purchase one from school, I purchased extras. Send in $7.00 in a student envelope labeled recorder to purchase one of the extras I have. 4th Grade Musical! Our Musical Bebop with Aesop will be March 1. Mark your calendar! We are learning the music during class and teachers will be working with the speaking and acting parts. In 4th grade we are using the Blues Scale to improvise and compose! It sounds so cool and mellow around here. Students are reviewing musical form and creating short pieces to share with the class while we all try to guess their form. It is fun!
