5th grade will be notating simple melodies, improvising and learning about Jazz this 9 weeks. We will be doing most of this with our recorders. We will begin our Recorder Karate program where students can advance at their own pace and only the sky is the limit. As needed, I will post tutorial videos to help students at home. Once we start recorder, students should bring them to music every day. If any student does not have, or forgets a personal recorder, I will have the classroom set available and each child will be responsible for cleaning and using the classroom recorder. The classroom books and recorders are for classroom use only and cannot be take home.
If your child does not have a recorder and forgot to purchase one from school, I purchased extras. Send in $7.00 in a student envelope labeled recorder to purchase one of the extras I have.
The 5th graders will be headed to the see the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on December 15. Check out the listening guide and music-
The concert will include the following-Michael Kurth: Prometheus Unhinged (Newly Commissioned Piece)

In 5th grade we are working on one of our end of the year 5th grade pieces, a Cannon by Purcell. We are also reviewing the instruments of the orchestra because the students will be headed to see the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on December 15. Please make sure you have filled our your student's Performing Arts Permission form and thank you so very much if you were able to donate money this year.
This week the students are performing the compositions they have been creating. Each child was placed in a group with 2-4 students total. They had the task of creating a rhythmic composition, creating how they would like it performed and what "trash" items they would like to use. I am always so impressed with them and what they create! If you would like a copy of just your student's performance, please send them to school with their Office 360 information or an email address a dropbox file or a google drive file can be sent.
